VolunTOUR Bhutan by motorbike - October 2012

bhutan_tigers_nest-3.jpg

In Bhutan, ACCF has had the opportunity to facilitate the vaccination of every eligible girl in this amazing Himalayan Kingdom.  It is the first developing country that has been able to implement a nation-wide Cervical Cancer Vaccination Program.

On this adventure, you‘ll see the work ACCF does by visiting screening clinics and/or vaccination programs.

After this, you will explore this magnificent country on your Royal Enfield motorbike. You will spend time visiting the most impressive sites in Thimphu and Paro combined with numerous opportunities to explore the cultural heritage of Bhutan and some of her more remote valleys. In the company of our local guides, you will follow quiet roads that lead above the Paro and Thimphu valleys to gain unrivalled views of the Himalayan peaks. Bhutan is a paradise for bikers with its pristine and beautiful environment boasting breathtaking landscapes, majestic mountains and an incredible wealth of flora and fauna. Experience the fascinating journey on two wheels through the mystical Dragon Kingdom of Bhutan.

Specific dates and costings for this trip are still yet to be decided but the trip is likely to be early October 2012. The hire of a Royal Enfield motorbike is included in the price of the trip.

VolunTOUR Bhutan by car and foot – October 2012

If you would rather explore Bhutan by car and foot than a motorbike, then this trip may be for you. Spend time visiting the ACCF screening clinics and/or vaccination programs and then get ready to explore this magical country.

The remote Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is well known for its untouched wilderness, rich Buddhist culture and a history steeped in mystique and legend. Our cultural journey encompasses all that Bhutan has to offer taking in the ‘must see’ highlights of both western and central Bhutan. Our tour begins in the picturesque Paro Valley, home to the Tigers Nest (Takstang) monastery. Here you will attend the famous Paro Tsechu before driving across the dramatic Dochu La into central Bhutan, to Bumthang. It is widely regarded that Bhutanese Bhuddism first took hold here and the legacies are the many ancient and magnificent monasteries in and around the area. With its culture and tradition still intact and vibrant, this is a country where man and nature live together in close harmony.

Specific dates and costings for this trip are still yet to be decided but the trip is likely to be mid-October 2012.

VolunTOUR Nepal - Dates to be advised.

If you've been thinking about a VolunTOURing adventure in Nepal now is the time to get planning!

ACCF will continue working on the community project at our women's clinic in Banepa (near Kathmandu). We would love you to join us and see firsthand how our clinic is progressing since our trip in March 2011. You can come and be part of the fantastic work we are doing in Nepal. Dates are yet to be confirmed, but likely to be February/March 2013.

There are still places available - so you can join us on our adventure - it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore Nepal and engage in some vital volunteer work.  You can come on your own, bring a friend or band together with some work colleagues for a team challenge.

Our trip will result in upgrading and finishing off our existing clinic building to allow additional clinic facilities for women who would otherwise have no access to medical treatment.

Here is what some of our participants from the last trip said:

"Apart from the obviously awesome experience of working alongside Nepalese workers at the clinic and being in the Himalayas amongst villagers and the majesty of the Anapurnas, the standout for me was the great care, warmth and camaraderie of fellow travellers, team leaders and the Nepalese support teams. This made the whole trip a joy from start to finish."  Claudje

“The ACCF Nepal 2011 tour was a most memorable and wonderful experience. Travelling in this beautiful country with like-minded people was a privilege. A big thank you to ACCF for making it all possible.” Jeanne & Greg

On completion of the project work, we will enjoy a fully supported camping based trek into the Annapurna region to beautiful Gurung villages and will experience some of the most stunning mountain scenery on earth. The trip will last for 17 days including 3 days volunteer work and 6 days trekking (plus flights to/from Kathmandu).

We will explore the vast range of Nepal’s cultural variety, from the bustling and vibrant capital of Kathmandu, trekking through villages in the Himalayas, camping and sleeping in traditional guesthouses .  We will visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur and explore its magnificent architecture and see their finest pottery which is still made in the time-honoured traditional way.  We will have a chance to get our hands dirty, or paint splattered by helping to put the finishing touches on a women's screening clinic at Banepa.

The cost of $5,570 (approx) covers air travel, accommodation, most meals, and includes a $1000 contribution towards the vital work ACCF is doing for the women of Nepal. Each participant can choose to fundraise the $1000 contribution or make a tax deductible donation.  ACCF can support your fundraising efforts.

Cervical cancer is a preventable disease, but often the treatments and vaccines are unavailable in developing countries.  ACCF is working in Nepal to bring the HPV vaccine to girls who otherwise would not have access to it.  We also support cervical cancer awareness and screening clinics for women.  Join us for our volunTOURing adventure in  Nepal and help save lives today.
