Cancer Council
Whether you have cervical cancer, or perhaps your wife, friend or family member - the Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20) is a wonderful source of information and support. For the cost of a local call, you can call from anywhere in Australia to talk with one of the Cancer Council's experienced and understanding cancer nurses. Support Services available: Helpline - 13 11 20 - Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5pm. Friendly registered cancer nurses can send you reliable cancer information, explain procedures and treatments, and link you to internet, telephone, and/or face-to-face support services. Support Groups - enable you to talk to others from the privacy of your own home or within local community centres/hospitals. Groups provide the opportunity to share concerns, learn from others, and share experiences. Types of groups include: Phone Support Groups - all you need to do is access a phone to be connected. Gynaecological Cancers Internet Support Group - This online group allows those that have or have had gynaecological cancers to share experiences and common issues with others via a professionally moderated, private online community. Breast and Gynaegolocial Cancers Face-to-face Support Groups - These groups provide you with a safe space to share information and discuss ways to cope with the challenges of life after a cancer diagnosis. Cancer Connect - Links you with others who have been through a similar experience. You can be linked by phone, internet or face-to-face with trained volunteers who really understand from first-hand experience what it is like to experience cancer because they have been through it themselves. Family Connect - For women with an increased cancer risk due to strong family history or cancer gene; Carers Connect is for women caring for someone with cancer. Holiday Break Programs - This program co-ordinates holidays for Victorians with a cancer diagnosis that may otherwise not be able to afford a break. This short break allows you and your family time to relax, revive and focus on things outside hospital visits and treatment.
